In 2005 Tim and Mary Hamer visited the lavender fields of Sequim, WA, during the Sequim Lavender Festival and it was love at first sight. After much research, their vision of bringing the fresh lavender aroma and beauty to their home in the Loess Hills of Iowa was realized in 2009 when they planted 1,200 lavender sprouts.
In 2011 the Lavender Farm’s Craft Store opened which features wonderful handmade items from over 40 vendors. In 2013, they started distilling their first lavender oil.
In the years to follow, a greenhouse was constructed, a working windmill was erected, a pergola was added, and the craft store building was expanded to host special event. They continued to add plants and at one time, hosted 4,000 plants and 10 varietals.
In 2022 Tim and Mary officially retired with hopes to travel. Our family purchased the Lavender Farm with aspirations of continuing their vision:
- Maintain the grounds to be a place of natural beauty by integrating native grasses and flowers;
- Provide a place of relaxation when walking through the beautiful lavender fields; and
- Hold special events for the public to enjoy the Lavender experience.
Tracy & Chelsea
As new owners of the Loess Hills Lavender Farm, we invite you to come walk through our small fields of lavender. There’s no entrance fee so come experience how lavender can tantalize your senses like few plants can. The Farm is also proud of its conservation acres (CRP) of wildflowers, grasses, and numerous pollinators. Come learn how important pollinators are to our lavender fields as well as crops, trees, and other plants.
We’ve added a fairy garden, gnome garden, troll bridge, educational area for “Birds, Bees & Butterflies”, and a very large chair where the Lavender Giant rests at the end of a hard day’s work. Beehives will arrive at the Farm soon to reside in our CRP area! Plans are also underway to expand our indoor venue to accommodate more guests and a Bridal Suite.
We’re excited for you to visit and hope to see you soon!
